Manchester Terminal Manoeuvring Area
The MTMA is a busy portion of airspace in the centre of the UK, with air traffic controllers routinely managing high volumes of both arriving and departing flights.
The MTMA Masterplan coordinates changes proposed by East Midlands, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester airports to upgrade the arrival and departure routes below 7,000 ft. and National Air Traffic (En Route) Services (NERL), the UK’s main navigation service provider, to upgrade the route network above 7,000 ft.

Stakeholder engagement
In developing Iteration 3 of the Masterplan for each cluster, ACOG is required by the CAA to formally engage on key aspects of it before the participating airports carry out a public consultation on the proposed changes with local stakeholders.
This is an opportunity for ACOG to share information and progress with a wide range of stakeholders on the development of the Masterplan for the cluster.
A public engagement exercise for the MTMA is expected in late 2025 / early 2026.
The purpose of the public engagement exercises is to explain in general terms the high-level approach to coordinating the ACPs required to deliver airspace modernisation.
