The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has today accepted the latest iteration of the Airspace Masterplan, developed by ACOG, into its Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS). Find the full CAA press release here.
The decision marks a significant step towards modernising the UK’s airspace to deliver quicker, quieter, and cleaner journeys.
Responding to the announcement, Mark Swan, Head of ACOG, said:
Today’s acceptance of Iteration 2 of the Masterplan marks an important milestone in the delivery of airspace modernisation for the UK. Crucially, it will allow airports to take the next steps on their respective upgrades and means the Programme is another stage closer to delivering benefits for businesses, passengers and communities across the UK. We look forward to continuing our work with the DfT, CAA and airports across the country to ensure the Government’s Airspace Modernisation Strategy is delivered.
Sir Timo Anderson, Chair of ACOG Steering Committee , said:
Formal acceptance of Iteration 2 of the Airspace Masterplan is a key milestone in transforming the invisible but vital transport network in our sky. The Co-Sponsors’ acceptance of the plan in full is testament to the hard work, adaptability and commitment of the ACOG team and a raft of key stakeholders alongside them in overcoming the severe challenges posed to the industry by the pandemic over the last year. The widespread benefits of airspace modernisation in terms of more reliable connectivity across the country, quick and tangible inroads into air transport decarbonisation, and fairer and more efficient use of our precious airspace resource lie before us. The Masterplan will signpost the way and acceptance of Iteration 2 is a significant step along the path.
