Airspace Change Consultations
All UK Airspace Change Proposals (ACPs) must follow the CAA’s airspace change process, set out in CAP1616. This details the required process for airspace change sponsors proposing an ACP – it involves several stages and requires ACP sponsors to engage and consult with a wide range of stakeholders throughout the process.
The consultation stage is an important part of the process. It gives ACP sponsors the opportunity to understand and consider various views and feedback on a proposal(s).
ACOG is not responsible for new route designs or airspace structures – this sits with the ACP sponsors. ACOG’s role is to coordinate the national programme and create a strategic coordinated Airspace Change Masterplan for UK airspace.
As the ACP sponsors progress through the airspace change process, they will reach the consultation stage (Stage 3 in CAP1616). NATS and the airports that are part of the Airspace Change Masterplan are required to coordinate their public consultations to ensure that stakeholders understand the overall impacts of the collective changes. More information of which airports are in the Masterplan and therefore required to coordinate their consultations together can be found here.
ACOG will signpost to these consultations when they launch, in the meantime, you can find out more detail on proposed changes to UK airspace via the CAA’s Airspace Change Portal.
